About MCC Marine Pty Ltd
MCC Marine Pty Ltd, an independant Australian marine surveying company, has been operating in Brisbane since 1991.
Our principal marine surveying personnel are Peter Murday and Robert Woodfield. Kaye Sauer heads up the finance department.
All principal personnel of MCC Marine have extensive experience in the handling and carriage of dry cargo and bulk commodities, general marine surveying and marine insurance in Brisbane and worldwide.
Peter and Robert hold Master Class 1 Foreign Going (STCW 95) certificates of competency. Both have had extensive sea going experience at senior ranks.
All principal personnel are Members of the Australian Institute of Marine Surveyors.
Peter Murday, Director
Master Class 1 (Unrestricted) – Sydney (Re-validated: AMC 2001, Brisbane 2007) Member of the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors, COMMA, Nautical Institute and ICHCA.
Peter is a founding principal of MCC Marine Pty Ltd, forming the original company in partnership with Capt. A. G. Snell, after 14 years at sea with both the Australian National Line and Howard Smith Industries and further five years in Gladstone with Associated Surveyors Queensland.
Peter achieved the rank of Chief Officer sailing on bulk carriers. He also served on oil tankers, container vessels, ro/ro’s and passenger ships.
Since forming MCC Marine he has been to most corners of the globe on a variety of assignments. He specializes in the inspection and cleaning of ships holds to the very strict Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) Fertilizer Importers (FIFA) protocols. He also advised ship owners on AMSA requirements prior to their vessels trading to Australia. Peter also undertakes condition surveys for a major international trading company and is a Cyprus DMS Inspector.
With 20 years of practical surveying experience now behind him there isn’t much he hasn’t seen nor too many excuses he hasn’t heard.
Robert Woodfield
Master Class 1 (unrestricted) – (Re-validated AMC) Member of the Australian Institute of Marine Surveyors
Robert has been a director of MCC Marine Pty Ltd for 8 years. Prior to this he was a Surveyor with Associated Surveyors Queensland, Gladstone for 8 years, the last 2 years as Principal Surveyor. Before taking up marine surveying Robert was 19 years at sea with The Australian National Line, Howard Smith Industries and Perkins Shipping. The last five years were as Master with Perkins Shipping.
Robert’s time at sea was spent on a diverse range of vessels: bulk carriers, passenger vessels, containerised vessels, Ro-Ro vessels, self-dischargers, self-propelled barges and break-bulk vessels.
With MCC Marine Robert has travelled to many countries on a variety of assignments. Robert specializes in the inspection and cleaning of ship’s holds to the very strict Australian and New Zealand quarantine standards and Fertilizer Importers (FIFA) protocols. He has also advised ship owners on AMSA requirements prior to their vessels trading to Australia. Robert also undertakes condition surveys and risk assessment surveys for a major international trading company and is a Cyprus DMS Inspector.
William Burton, Surveyor
Master Class1 (Unrestricted) - Sydney (Re-validated: AMC 2000, Brisbane 2006)
Member of the Nautical Institute and Company of Master Mariners of Australia, probationary member of the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors.
William joined MCC Marine Pty Ltd as a full time marine surveyor in 2006. William started his sea-going career in the RAN and after an honourable discharge joined the merchant marine gaining wide experience on passenger ships, container vessels, tankers, bulk carriers, self-dischargers, off-shore supply vessels and ocean going tugs. He has had command experience on landing barges, small general cargo vessels, supply vessels and tugs plying the waters of northern Australia and South East Asia. He has held exemptions for the Ports of Cairns and Dampier. William has also navigated ships through the treacherous Great Barrier Reef as a licensed Great Barrier Reef Pilot. His new career brings him closer to home whilst offering new challenges.
Gerald Bellis, Insurance Loss Assessor and Investigator / Surveyor
Service with the Victoria Police and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary. Resigned his Commission with the RPNGC in 1972.
Associate Member of the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors.
Gerald commenced his career in the insurance industry in Papua New Guinea after resigning from the RPNGC. He initially served as an Agent for various insurers in PNG before starting his own business in loss/damage assessment and fraud investigation. Gerald ultimately sold his business in PNG to a large multi-national company and returned to Australia where he picked up the cudgels again in 1990. Gerald has dealt with most types of insurance matters but his specialty these days is marine cargo loss / damage claims and the occasional fraud or accident investigation. Since joining MCC Marine Pty Ltd in 2005 Gerald has greatly expanded the insurance side of the business. This success is due in no small part to his prompt and reliable reporting combined with a most impressive track record.
Kaye Sauer ACA MBA B Fin Admin, Financial Controller
Kaye is the Financial Controller of MCC Marine Pty Ltd and its associates. She has been with the firm for the past 10 years. Kaye is a chartered accountant and prior to joining a fledgling MCC Marine had worked in private practice, the commercial sector and local government. Her work in local government focussed on change management while her MBA focussed on international business which ultimately led to the commissioning of two market surveys relating to shipping in the international arena. Kaye is the principal author of "The World High Speed Cargo Vessel Market" published by Baird Publications. Sha has also written another book on the Offshore Support Vessel market that has yet to be published. Her advice is often sought and when given, always valued.
